about

The documentary film, Ride the Wave, made by Scottish director Martyn Robertson, received its World premiere at the 2021 BFI London Film Festival and was selected for the Great8 Showcase at Cannes in the same year. It won the 2022 SKY Nature Award at the Riviera International Film Festival in Italy and hwas selected for the Mark Kermode curated Screenplay International Film Festival in Shetland after which it received its official UK cinema release in September 2022. The film is now available to stream in the UK.

Twynholm’s music for Ride The Wave masterfully combines elements of songwriting and folk melody with electronic and contemporary classical composition to create the wide range of instrumental textures necessary to tell this intimate coming-of-age story. Avoiding all surf-music clichés and working with a sound palette of strings and electronics, the score covers a broad spectrum of emotions, at times fun and free-spirited while at others brutal and foreboding. With a film shot across several countries, and over an extended period of four years the soundtrack drives the story forward and adds coherence, often raw and unpredictable like the sea itself.

Released September 2022 on limited edition vinyl LP and digital download.
